Why:  May Day by the Bay was started 1981 by Doug Chang and Kuʽulei Cooper.  Both of them moved to Kauaʽi from Oʽahu and were missing the music and hula that they were a part of and had access to.  The idea was to bring world-class music and hula to Kauaʽi.  May Day by the Bay was very successful and was held at various locations in Princeville starting with Hanalei Bay Resort.  The last one was held in 1993.  We were given permission by them to revive this wonderful event in 2011.  We thank them both very much for their wonderful idea and support.
We are proud to showcase the best parts of Kauaʽi – our people, culture and beauty.  By shining the spotlight on the people in our community who are “Keeping the Culture Alive” we also have the opportunity to give the visitors to our island a unique, authentic, hands-on experience they’ll always remember, in a one of a kind setting.

This is not a fundraiser as all monies donated and raised that day are used to perpetuate this great community event.

This is an alcohol/drug-free event sponsored by the County of Kauaʽi, Hawai'i Tourism Authority, and The Garden Island Newspaper.
