Waimea Valley Presents the Makahiki Festival & Ke ‘Alohi Hula Competition

The annual Waimea Valley Makahiki celebration includes the Ke ‘Alohi Hula Competition for a fourth year, to be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017. Originally established in 1981, this event was part of Waimea Valley’s annual Makahiki festivities until 1995. The competition was successfully revived in 2014 and has been held every year since then.
The original spirit of this competition has been preserved, with women and men competing for a single hula kahiko (ancient hula) title. Competitors perform one kahiko hula, and between each of these, hālau representing the entrants take the stage. There are hula hālau from different parts of O‘ahu committed to being a part of this event this year. Their hula brothers and sisters will be there along with their families. There will also be live music, local vendors, cultural activities, traditional Hawaiian games, demonstrations, and more! It will be an exciting day. Located at 59-864 Kamehameha Highway Haleiwa, HI 96712. For more information visit www.waimeavalley.net or call (808) 638-7766.
