In 2015, The Institute for Human Services (IHS) was able to prominently reduce homelessness on our islands thanks to the generous contributions of our community leaders, including banks, development, retail, and the visitor industry. Together we aligned with IHS through “Hawai‘i for Hawai‘i” to raise $400,000, enabling IHS to reduce visible homelessness by 70% and repeat homelessness by 14% in Waikiki and surrounding areas.
There is no doubt that the efforts of IHS made a significant impact for Waikiki, but it also benefited thousands more homeless throughout Hawai‘i in different ways. With the help of Hawai‘i for Hawai‘i, IHS was able to substantially expand services including outreach programs, transportation, case management and airline relocation. In addition, IHS was able to relocate over 400 people off the streets of Waikiki, and over 1300 people last year.
This year, our goal is to raise $1,000,000 for IHS to continue their great work and successful path to reduce homelessness in Hawai‘i. These dollars will surely make a positive difference in our Oahu and neighbor island communities.
